How To Get A Commercial Liability Insurance Certificate

You probably just booked a new job for your business and your new client is asking you to provide them with a commercial liability insurance certificate. Is this correct?

If so, I can do this for you!

First off, you probably want to know what a commercial general liability certificate is and why your new client is asking you for it?

Basically, the certificate will show the liability amounts that your business is covered for, as well as the effective and expiry dates of your policy.

That’s very simple. But why would a potential client want this? It’s to protect themselves.

Before they hire your business, whether you’re a general contractor, or a painter, or an electrician, or a plumber, or anything else, your new client wants to know that they’re protected if something goes wrong. A commercial general liability policy (CGL) covers your business for damages due to it being liable for personal injury or property damage. Your new client wants to make sure that you have this and that your business can cover them if something goes wrong.

So that’s the basics of what a certificate is. Now, how do you get one?

Well, you need to first set up a new commercial general liability policy. As soon as that’s done, I will provide you with the certificate. It’s as easy as that.

Just know, that it could take a few days to actually get a quote and set up a new policy. So, don’t leave this until the last day. Then, once you have a policy, it’s quick and easy to issue a certificate whenever a new job requires you to provide this.
